Taking some time to "pure it".
What does it mean to "pure" something as a verb? Well, I just encountered this phrase when listening to an episode of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast. While interviewing comedian Ari Shaffir, they start talking about Ari's recent experience doing ayahuasca in South America- the link to this snippet is right here (and it's worth watching): https://youtu.be/8rzpyjlkAZ4
During this chat about Ari's experience with shamanic psychedelics, he describes gaining a deep, spiritual insight into a phenomenon he refers to as "pure-ing it": when you undertake a creative project with a purity of intent and spirit, and it continues to exist and bear fruit after your life has long since been extinguished.
As Ari said of one of his creative projects: "I made it. And it was good." He came to the conclusion he's only made two of these "pure" creations- which he perceived as orbs during his ayahuasca trip- and he was overcome with a realization that creating these orbs was the sole purpose of his existence.
In typical shaman fashion, I stumbled across this interview at just the right time. While I get so much from one-on-one sessions with clients, I'm also trying to "pure it" with a big, long-term project: our TOTEM Tarot Deck.
It's a hard thing to explain to people that aren't dogged by what I can only call creative urgency. But Ari got pretty close to the same thing I've felt at times, particularly during my own shamanic journeys, meditations and conversations with Spirit Guides.
To support the last leg of this effort, I am taking the month of August off of 1:1 client sessions. I have started a wait list for September, and if you're interested in booking any service in September or October please shoot me an email to be included on the waitlist: firstname.lastname@example.org. I'll be reaching back out to schedule sessions on a first-come, first-serve basis using this waitlist.
Please note: we will still have all of our wonderful, witchy workshops in August (check out our Events page here for details). Space for these workshops is limited and people are already signing up, so if you're intrigued I would encourage you to secure your spot ASAP.
I want to thank you all for your patience as we take a step back in order to move forward in a bigger, more impactful way. This Ari Shaffir interview, our recent online Spirit Guides workshop, and other factors are practically screaming at me to bring my creative project out of concept and into reality- primarily so that others can experience and use it.
Creation is an incredible force, one that I think can transcend ego, materialism, and even time and space. When we make something, we are channeling the energy of the infinite and making it manifest in the finite world, and I believe this is one of the most important functions we can provide as humans having a human experience.
As we enter this final phase, please make sure that you are following us on Instagram here and have added this email address (email@example.com) to your "favorites" to ensure you're getting invites to special events and related updates- and they're not ending up in your junk folder!
There are times when we enter a space where words cannot fully describe the meaning of things. Where the doing takes on full meaning, and we are interacting with existence on a meta level. We enter these states when we undertake a Shamanic Journey...and when we "pure it". I can't wait to circle back with something very tangible, very soon.
And I hope you're all enjoying your own creative process with existence. You're here for a reason, even if it doesn't always seem that way in the moment. And, if nothing else, just remember what Heraclitus said: “The Aeon is a child at play with colored balls."
So make sure you set aside some time to create and play a little bit this month...
